Coordinate the ceiling shape and levels with the interior design.
Specialist Works / Product Guide
Gypsum Board and Ceilings
Shape the ceiling and coordinate lighting and services while retaining maintenance access.
Supply and installation begin with a site survey and written specifications tailored to your project.
01 / Understand the System
Details to consider before you choose.
Gypsum-board ceilings use boards fixed to a suspended or supported metal framework. Joints are treated before painting or finishing. The design sets the levels, divisions, lighting openings, ventilation openings and access panels.
Boards, framing and suspension are selected for the location and approved system. A moisture-resistant board is not waterproof. A fire-resistance or acoustic rating must not be assigned to an individual board without a tested assembly and its specified details.
Benefits and Applications
Integrate lighting and openings in an organised layout.
Conceal services while providing planned access panels.
Select a system suited to the intended use and space requirements.

Flat ceiling with an access panel
Locate service access before closing up the boards while maintaining the system requirements.
Concealed perimeter lighting
Coordinate cove dimensions, ventilation, light fittings, power supplies and access for maintenance.
Changes in ceiling level
Review joints, supports and intersections with air conditioning, curtains and decorative elements.
03 / From Preparation to Handover
Clear steps from the start.
Before Installation
- Repair water leaks and complete wet trades before closing the ceiling.
- Approve ceiling levels, service layouts and access-panel positions.
- Identify heavy loads and provide fixings to an appropriate supporting element, not just the board.
- Select a system that meets moisture, fire or acoustic requirements where needed.
At Handover
- Check surface level, joints, paintwork and openings.
- Test access panels and the relevant lighting and services.
- Provide service locations and explain restrictions on drilling and hanging loads.
Dimensions, materials, models, performance limits, installation scope, timeframe, warranty and maintenance terms are defined in the approved quotation. This guide is general guidance and does not replace the installed product’s documentation or a technical site survey.
04 / After Installation
Use it correctly. Care for it simply.
Every Day
Handling and Operation
- Do not hang chandeliers or weights from the board without purpose-designed fixings.
- Open access covers carefully and refit them correctly.
- Address the source of damp promptly before repairing paint or boards.
As Needed
How to Clean
- Remove dust with a soft, dry tool without pressing on the board.
- Clean stains according to the paint finish’s cleanability, not just the board type.
- Use a slightly damp cloth only where the surface finish permits, then dry.
Protect the System
What to Avoid
- Do not wash the ceiling with water or steam.
- Do not drill without checking for nearby wiring or pipes.
- Do not paint over recurring cracks or water stains without diagnosing the cause.
Do Not Ignore These Signs
When to Request Maintenance
- Sagging, separation or a widening crack: keep people clear and contact a specialist.
- Signs of leaks or mould, or a change in ceiling alignment.
- A loose access panel, light fitting or suspended component.
Agree inspection and cleaning intervals with the technician based on the manufacturer’s instructions, usage, dust and humidity. Electrical work, dismantling loaded components and work at height require a qualified professional. Do not attempt these repairs yourself.
05 / Frequently Asked Questions
Before you decide.
Can moisture-resistant board cope with a constant leak?
No. Stop the water source and select a system suitable for the location. Moisture resistance is not waterproofing.
Can I hang a chandelier directly from the board?
Loads require fixings designed to support them. They often need independent suspension from a suitable structural element.
