A security shutter is a moving closure for residential or commercial openings. The slats, guides, box, operator and locking method are specified as a complete system, rather than on appearance alone.
The name “security” does not mean the product is burglar-proof or has a certified burglary-resistance rating. Where specific security or insurance requirements apply, select a system with a documented classification and review its fixings, location and escape routes.

- Check the fixing substrates and the condition of the walls and opening.
- Confirm that the system does not obstruct emergency exits or required ventilation.
- Specify the power supply, controls and power-failure procedure.
At Handover
- Test opening, closing, locking and permitted release procedures in accordance with the manual.
- Explain the safety devices and how to stop movement.
- Provide component details and any classifications included in the agreed specification.

- Watch the opening during operation and keep children and passers-by clear.
- Do not pass beneath a moving shutter or leave it in an unstable position.
- Do not repeatedly try to operate jammed slats. Stop and contact a technician.

How to Clean
- Disable operation before cleaning parts that can be reached safely.
- Use a soft cloth and a compatible cleaner, then dry the surfaces.
- Remove dust from the closing area without tampering with locks or safety devices.

- Do not test resistance by striking the shutter or using tools.
- Do not disable a sensor or stop device, or change the operator settings.
- Do not dismantle loaded components or apply oil without the manufacturer’s recommendation.

- Significant dents, loose fixings or slats leaving their guides.
- A change in operating speed, unusual noises or recurring faults.
Agree inspection and cleaning intervals with the technician based on the manufacturer’s instructions, usage, dust and humidity. Electrical work, dismantling loaded components and work at height require a qualified professional. Do not attempt these repairs yourself.

Before you decide.
Can a security shutter replace an alarm?
No. It should be selected as part of the site’s security plan. It does not by itself replace locks, an alarm or safety requirements.
Is burglary resistance guaranteed?
A resistance rating should only be stated for a specific system supported by appropriate testing and certification documents and installed in accordance with them.
